Wow, this is a pretty cool little fella. No one can argue that the Japanese have the market cornered on cool robotics. Now if I could only see the mechanical interworkings underneath I could pick up on some useful animatronic tricks. Hey maybe us Haunters can pool some duckies together and buy one for the soul purpose of reverse-engineering with Halloween in mind.
The box looks innocent enough with it’s lid open tempting observers to step closer and see what lies inside. But the box has a mind of it’s own. Get within six feet and it will shut it’s own lid. Then when the observer steps away it cautiously opens it lid again an inch or so every now and then until it feels safe.
If you’ve been following Haunt Cast and Steve O. over at Garage of Evil then you already have a pretty good idea what’s driving this gem – a Parallax Ping sensor, a micro-controller of some sort, and some clever programming.
So what’s in the box? Apparently something according to Bryan Mumford but he’s not telling.
